Do your family and friends think it is a good idea
that
you're becoming a priest?
My family and friends have been extremely supportive of my decision to
enter
the Program for Priestly Formation. I am of French Canadian
heritage, so my
extended family is very excited and proud of my decision.
Sometimes it is the
reaction and excitement of my non-Catholic friends that touches me the
most; it
is amazing to see the Lord at work in mysterious ways.
Do you ever have any fun? What do you do in your free
time?
I love sports! I was raised in Los
Angeles, so naturally I am a diehard Dodgers,
Kings,
and Lakers fan. I recently graduated from San Diego State
University, and
I became
a fixture at the games by sitting in the front row dressed as “Dog
the
Bounty Hunter”. I love to read books in social and political
commentary
and stay up to date in current affairs.
If you were not a priest, what do you think you would
be?
I would definitely be playing 1st base for the Los Angeles
Dodgers.
If not the Dodgers, I probably would have gone into teaching.
How many brothers and sisters do you
have?
I have one younger sister, who has often been my partner in crime.
What is your favorite TV
program?
I love the Office, Cheers, Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, Modern
Marvels,
Dog the Bounty Hunter, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Who is your favorite singer or music
group?
I’m really into Rock, Classic Rock and Oldies, so I love Bon Jovi,
Journey, Boston, Europe,
Guns n Roses, Elvis, Frank Sinatra, the Bee Gees, the Temptations, and
KC and
the Sunshine Band.
How often do you see your
family?
My parents live out of town so I visit about every two months.
I’m
fortunate now that my sister is going to school at the University
of California at San Diego, so I have lunch with her
if we are
both free.
Can you really be happy as a priest since priests
don't make
much money?
I have never really been into material goods and name brand items.
Diocesan
priests make a small salary that would more than satisfy my needs.
I seek spiritual
riches, not material ones.
Who helped you decide to become a
priest?
The priests that I have been blessed to know here in San Diego, my family, and many of my
friends.
When did you decide to study to be a priest? How did
you know
God was calling you to be a priest?
I had been feeling the call during my final spring semester at
San Diego
State University.
I attended the Explorer Day and felt completely at peace about the idea
of
being a priest for the Diocese of San Diego. To be truthful for me
it was more
of a self-realization than a single moment in time. It shows me
how we are all
called by the Lord in different ways.
What do you think the best thing will be about being a
priest?
I am thrilled with the idea of being at the service of the Lord and His
people
here in San
Diego.
I want to be the Lord’s hands, feet, and voice here on
earth. I also
look forward to making God present in people’s lives through the
Sacraments, and spreading my joy of the faith to my future
flock.
